Anna Burden

Anna Burden joined the OSM as associate principal cello in 2011. Anna grew up in a musical household in the suburbs of Chicago. The first classical musician in her family, Anna started learning piano with her mother at age 6, and she asked for cello lessons at age 8. Among her favourite musical memories is her first concert with the OSM, the inauguration of Maison symphonique with Beethoven’s monumental Symphony no. 9. She is incredibly grateful to her teachers, Hans Jørgan Jensen at Northwestern University, Joel Krosnick and Darrett Adkins at the Juilliard School, Alan Stepansky at the Manhattan School of Music, and Richard Aaron. Before joining the OSM in 2011, Anna played with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra from 2010-2011, as well as with the Peninsula Music Festival as section cellist and frequent soloist from 2007-2019. Anna plays a cello made in 1929 by Carl Becker Sr. of Chicago. She currently teaches at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University, as well as at the Université de Montréal. When she’s not working, you can find Anna chasing after her three young sons.
