El Sistema OSM Program
The El Sistema OSM program, inspired by the original El Sistema model from Venezuela, offers young people high-quality musical training that extends well beyond learning to play an instrument. Its mission is to support their personal and social development by fostering values such as discipline, perseverance, mutual respect, and teamwork.
Through immersive and intensive orchestral activities, participants gain skills that are essential for personal growth and future success, all within an inclusive and stimulating environment. Music becomes a powerful tool for shaping open-minded and engaged citizens.
The El Sistema OSM program is designed for youth aged 6 to 16 in Montréal-Nord. Delivered by La musique aux enfants, the initiative provides participants with the opportunity to learn and play orchestral instruments in a group setting. Sessions are held four days a week as part of after-school activities.
Launched in November 2024, the program is offered at two schools in Montréal-Nord: Saint-Rémi Elementary and Calixa-Lavallée High School, with Mille-voix High School joining in January 2025. Each year, students showcase their progress by performing in several concerts at major concert halls.
The program is led by a dedicated team of 10 musician-teachers, all of whom are university-qualified or currently studying at the university level. They are deeply committed to music education and nurturing the full potential of every child.
Intensive, high-quality musical and orchestral training that extends well beyond simply learning an instrument.
